Butlins’ £20m hotel

The building of the 200-bedroom Ocean Hotel isn’t the first step Butlins has made to distance itself from the old-fashioned image of the ‘Hi De Hi’ holiday camp (it opened the 160-bedroom Shoreline hotel at Bognor four years ago) but the investment it’s made and the care and attention given to the hotel’s finish shows that the company really means business when it comes to taking a hefty share of the UK holiday market.

The 246-cover bar and restaurant, based around a hot buffet, is geared up to deal with more casual-style eating rather than fine-dining, but it’s a far-cry from the food court that was the resort’s main dining attraction several years ago.

But the Ocean hotel’s crowning glory has to be its spa. Traditional saunas and hot tubs sit alongside more quirky features such as relaxation pods, singing showers, and a snow cave. There are also 70 different treatments available for guests, ranging from traditional treatments such as manicures for £20 to a 105 minute Beauty and the Beach full body treatment for £125.
